Our plan for power in our camper van is to use electric power only.  So solar panels on the roof seems to be a good option for us.  Here’s how we installed the Renogy Solar Panels on our 2021 Ford Transit.

The main purchases we had to make were:

  • Renogy 100 Watt Solar Panels (Amazon)
  • 4 sets of Renogy Mounting Z brackets   (Amazon)
  • Renogy Cable Entry Housing Mount (Amazon)
  • BougeRV 10ft 10AWG Solar Cables  (Amazon)

Attach all the brackets to the sides of each panel.  Renogy only provided self-tapping screws, but for added security we used bolts with locking nuts instead.

Then we drilled the holes through each bracket, and painted them with rust proof paint.

A hole was also cut for the renogy cable entry housing mount.

We then attached all the panels, making sure all the nuts and bolts and locking nuts were secured well.

The 10 ft solar MC4 cable down from the panels through the housing, and down into the van. The MC4 connectors were attached to the bare ends of the MC4 cable. This will then be connected to the Bluetti, our solar power generator.
