Exploring the Back Roads of Canada and the USA

A little bit about us.  We feel extremely lucky to live in this big, beautiful country of Canada.  There are endless places to explore.  Oceans, and lakes, and rivers, and waterfalls, and mountains, and wide open skies, and forests, and thriving big cities, and quaint little towns.  Not to mention the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets.  The very distinct four seasons make each area we visit a brand new experience, depending on the season we visit.  Not only that, we can double and triple our travel adventures by simply hopping over the border to explore the USA.

About Us

We are both Computer Science graduates and  worked in the IT Industry for many, many years.  In 2019 we made the giant leap to the next chapter of our lives, retired and have not looked back since!

Travelling has always been a big part of our lives.  Company-allocated vacation days were always used up every year.  In some cases, extra unpaid days were negotiated so that our travel could take us further.  And so it’s no surprise that our top priority in retirement is travel.

While we were planning our retirement, we came across an internet story where someone converted their SUV into a little camper.  Upon further investigation, it turns our that many people are doing this!  This led us to discovering Van Life and Dry Camping (aka Boondocking).  This simple and nomadic life appealed to us both, so we decided to give it a try.  It’s the best decision we have made in our retirement.  See below for what we did to our Honda CRV.

Boondocking in our Honda CRV

Before we set out on our first ‘boondock’ trip, we told each other that we would just try it out.  See what it’s like.  Book a motel or airbnb every 2 or 3 nights.  Come back home if we just can’t get used to it.  It turned out, we loved it!  We didn’t spend a single night in a motel because, there’s absolutely nothing more beautiful than waking up to a sunrise!  Our planned two-week trip turned into a whole month, and we were hooked.
